The
idea for The Center for Homeschool Excellence grew out
of the need for better preparing our homeschooled high school students
(and ourselves) for college, the admissions process, transcripts and
portfolios. We saw there was a need for affordable upper
level math, literature and science courses. We wanted our homeschool
children to excel in their academics so we started the process
of obtaining charter memberships in several honor societies.We wanted our children to have a college Letter of Recommendation
from a credible source, the ability to hold leadership positions in
a student organization and service projects to fit their educational
and lifetime goals. We also realized there was a need for parent support
group meetings tailored around topics such as dual enrollment, writing
a transcript, preparing a portfolio, assigning credit hours and grades,
what colleges are looking for, etc. Your high schooler benefits in
many ways because we started The Center for Homeschool Excellence
tailored around their educational, recreational and spiritual
needs.
After talking with many homeschooled high schoolers
and their parents, we found a common theme. We tailored our activities,
classes, and projects around those themes. For your high schooler,
we are offering:
• Homeschool Honor Societies: Junior
Beta Club, Senior Beta Club, The National Homeschool Honor Society,
The Junior National Homeschool Honor Society and the The National
Society of High School Scholars
• Lab Classes: Biology, Chemistry,
Physics (in process)
• Advanced field trips that help further their
educational experience and depth of learning
• Advanced service
projects that foster a sense of community, outreach and awareness
•
Clubs that fit their recreational needs and interests
• Classic
Literature Book Club that helps stimulate discussion between peers.
Learning that others may read the same book and get something totally
different out of the book. Talking with others to explore Biblical
themes and applications through Classic Literature.
• The ability
to participate in a Student Government Association either as
a member or leader. Give them ownership over their service
projects, field trips, book selections, community involvement, and
social activities.
• Social activities planned for their specific ages
and interests
• Support group meetings for parents with topics
relating to high schoolers like dual enrollment, how to write a transcript,
college admissions process, how to put together a portfolio,
etc.
• Intimate Graduation with their class of friends and families,
Senior pictures, induction and awards ceremonies, Senior banquet
The
sky is the limit on what each high school class can achieve and we
are here to support the process as much as possible!
